Mixed-media assemblage is an addictive and accessible art form that facilitator Sara Saltee has been exploring for nearly 25 years.

Come learn to make your own enchanting little world in a shrine or shadow box!

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:

  • key traditions in the assemblage lineage, including women’s folk art, Buddhist and Catholic sacred shrines, 19th century curiosity cupboards (Wunderkammer), and 20th century fine art

  • how to think in layers

  • design principles for three dimensional spaces

  • how to choose the right glue for the job

Sara provides:

  • Paints and brushes

  • Assorted papers

  • Glues

  • Glitter, beads and other shiny bits for adding finishing touches

  • An assortment of objects and supports to augment what you bring

You bring:

  • A sturdy box to build your assemblage in

  • Ephemera you’d like to include, such as small objects, photographs, papers, etc.

When you register, you’ll receive a detailed email with suggestions for planning what to bring.
